Fluff Those Pillows, Boo

This blog post is to serve several types of people: those who don’t see the beauty in daily bed-making, those who need a reminder that simple implementations (bed-making or other) really can make a much bigger wave than you could expect, and those who are taking a brief moment from reading Instagram or Facebook captions. Raise your hand if you’re one of those peeps.

Ok let’s dig in.

I used to make fun of my little sister for always making her bed in the morning.

Oh, please. You make your bed just to get right back into it later tonight… It’s a waste of effort. No one else is going to see it.

Not that I was *ahem* sloppy—I bet Kenzie would beg to differ—but I didn’t care or put in the effort to keep my childhood (but really more like young-adulthood) bedroom in a tidy order. I would let clutter build up, wait forever to do my laundry, and leave my bed unmade.

Someone asked me recently “What’s a relatively small change that has made a big difference in your life?” Although there have been a handful of small things that I’ve implemented in the last several years, one in particular stuck out.

I started making my bed in the morning 😱 ! I remember being reluctant to even begin because I gave Kenzie so much shit for doing it, sister-things am I right? But ego aside……. I woke up one morning and thought just do it. Thanks Nike.

Boom. Pillows fluffed, wrinkles smoothed, and sheets tucked. Later in the day, I returned to my crispy clean bed. Granted, the rest of the room could’ve been picked up a bit too but hey, one step at a time.

It was genuinely surprising how it impacted the rest of my day and, frankly, how I handle my home-hygiene in general. Not only is it a satisfying start to the day, it also encourages me to keep other things in my living space tidy. One may even say I’ve Marie Kondo’d the shit out of my space.

Then, returning to a fresh bed—after a day full of whatever was in-store—ends the day on a refreshing/satisfying note.

There have been probably less than 8 times that my bed has been unmade within the last ohhhh I don’t know, 3 years. For real! It has come to the point where not-making it makes me feel like the day hasn’t properly started.

Bed-making is nothing novel, oooobviously. This insanely simple thing that takes less than a minute each morning has, however, changed my muhfuckin’ LIFE! I know I’m late to the party, buuut I also know people who still don’t make their beds...FOOLS! ;)

(Btw, I’m one of those peeps!)

Before being prompted, I don’t know the last time I thought about something “minor” making a major change in my life. Being reminded every now and then can only do us good!
