Glimmers of Good

I’ve found myself saying “everything is f*cked” more progressively as I experience the ever-revealing reality of adulthood.

From “small peanuts” like real estate BS as a first-time homeowner to the atrocities of men’s wars. Exploitative billionaires and lying politicians. Abusers and mass shooters. Patriarchal institutions and genocide.

It’s all too much.

In reality, the majority of things are very much f*cked. The world is bleeding and the weight of it all accumulates and breaks us down, oftentimes clouding the glimmers of good.

We do our best to balance responsibility and a life led by joy (I don’t know about you but I’m throwing in “feelings of guilt” to the mix). And yet our channels of communication are clogged with everything that’s wrong with the world.

Last week, I came across this snippet from These Are the Words by Nikita Gills:

“Everything is on fire, but everyone I love is doing beautiful things and trying to make a life worth living, and I know I don’t have to believe in everything, but I believe in that.”

That one hit like a hammer to a nail for what I needed to hear. Because yes, my loved ones are doing beautiful things, every single day. There is good out there, it just takes a little more effort for consistent exposure to it, or at the very least, acknowledgement and appreciation of it.

If for no other purpose than for you to take this blog post as a reminder, let it serve you just as Nikita’s words did me.
